Question Asked: What’s The Best Song of All Time?
|
May 18th, 2008 |
Talk about a loaded question. The “greatest” song of all time is a highly subjective question, and I can guarantee that you could ask a hundred people, and get a hundred different answers. Some obvious ones that come to mind:
- Stairway to Heaven
- Freebird
- November Rain
- Imagine
Let’s see what other people think, shall we?
Rolling Stone says Bob Dylan’s Like A Rolling Stone.
Virgin Radio says Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars (seriously?)
Yahoo Answers – Wow. Just wow.
The Brisbane Times says The Righteous Brothers’ Unchained Melody
I think the question’s too hard to come up with one solid answer, because you can break the question down into subcategories such as genre, sales, playability, etc.
If I were to answer based on some subcategories, I’d do so as the following:
Best song, overall: Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns ‘n’ Roses
Best song, musical composition: Stairway to Heaven – Led Zeppelin
Best song lyrics: Piano Man – Billy Joel
Best selling album: Wikipedia says Michael Jackson’s Thriller is the best selling record of all time with 108 million copies.
Best selling single track: Bing Crosby’s White Christmas followed closely by Elton John’s Candle In The Wind ‘97.
This question is open for discussion, no matter who you ask, or where. Everyone’s got a different opinion. Obviously more sales doesn’t indicate that it’s a better song that something else. (Elton John? Seriously?) The “best song” is subjective, and entirely up to you, and your tastes in music.
Other answers you may find useful:
- What’s The Best Song of All Time?
- What Happened To The Band Boston?
- What’s The Highest Grossing Movie of all Time?
- What is the Greatest Invention of the 20th Century?
