Question Asked: When Did The First Nintendo Come Out?
The original Nintendo, dubbed “Nintendo Entertainment System”, was first released by Nintendo in Japan on July 15th, 1983.
Nintendo then brought it to America on October 18th, 1985.
It has since gone on to sell just shy of 62 million units worldwide.
The NES began being phased out in the late ’80s, as the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) was in development. SNES was available in August of ‘91, and marked the death of the NES.
Many gamers today still have their Nintendo systems, and often set them up for nostalgic purposes. Though hard to come by, every now and again you can find one on eBay.
Question Asked: What Video Game Character Has Appeared In The Most Games?
The result is astounding, and not at all surprising.
“Mario” from “Super Mario Brothers” holds this record, by a landslide. The lovable plumber who started his video game career back in 1983 in “Donkey Kong” has appeared in more than 200 video games since.
The most famous of which is the “Super Mario Brothers” franchise, which has single handedly become the biggest selling game franchise in Nintendo’s history, selling over 200 million games over the years.
And interesting fact about the original Mario — he was voiced by Peter Cullen, who also was the original voice of Optimus Prime in “Transformers”.
Super Mario Brothers was also the first video game to sell more than 10 million copies, and was also the first video game to be made into a movie.
Question Asked: What Excercise Games Are There For The Wii?
The Wii’s revolutionary interactive controllers are allowing more game makers to get people off the couch, and into the game.
Nintendo made exercising fun with the Wii Fit late last year, and had people all over the place getting up and hula hooping their pounds away.
In addition to the Wii Fit, a new game called Wii Active just came out earlier this week. I grabbed a copy from Best Buy, since I’m a video game lover, and gave it a shot. I’m on day 2 of the “30 day challenge”, and I feel like I’ve had my butt severely kicked.
The Wii Active game is much more of an exercise routine than a video game. Where Wii Fit allows you to select what you want to do during your workout, the “challenge” in Wii Active decides what games you do, and in what order. It’s a much more intense workout than Wii Fit offers.
Also, you may want to check out “Punch Out”, which is a reboot of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out from the mid ’80s, of course without Mike Tyson’s name on it this time. It’s just as you’d think – punching at bad guys. And Punch Out incorporates the Balance Board into it, so you can shift your weight to dodge punches from your opponent.
Question Asked: What Is The Next “Lego” Game Coming Out?
The Lego video games have been wildly successful, starting with Star Wars, then Indiana Jones, and finally Batman.
Now they’ve moved on to another huge game franchise; Rock Band.
Harmonix (makers of Rock Band) have teamed up with TT Games (Lego game makers), and put together Lego Rock Band.
There is no offical street date yet, other than “Holiday 2009″, which most likely means sometime after Halloween, but before Christmas. (Side note, they said “Holiday 2009″ for The Beatles: Rock Band as well, and that comes out 09.09.09, so take “holiday” how you will.)
I’ve seen some screenshots of the Lego game online, and it looks pretty amazing. Will I buy it? Absolutely, it may be Lego, but it’s also a Rock Band game.
Question Asked: Is A Wii Worth The Price?
Depends on who you ask, how much you like gaming, and whether or not your family wants to participate.
At just $249, the Wii is one of the least expensive gaming consoles there is. It’s also one of the highest in-demand systems, as well.
My wife and I have had ours for over a year now. At first, we loved it. It was a lot of fun to play the Wii Sports game that comes with the console. As we purchased more and more games, it was pretty evident that a good portion of games that were on the Wii weren’t utilizing all of the features of the Wii console.
As time passed, the Wii became more of a dust collector on our shelf. We would occasionally take it out, and do Wii Sports. And we eventually got Wii Fit, which was fun for a few weeks.
A lot of people love the Wii, and think it’s well worth the money. For us, the money wasn’t an issue. The games aren’t as good on the Wii (because it can’t handle as much video rendering as other systems) as on the Xbox or Playstation. The games developed by Nintendo specifically for the Wii, however, are the best. Wii Sports is still the best game I’ve played for the Wii, without doubt.
If you can find one, it’s not like it’s the most expensive console in the world. If you don’t like it, the resale value is usually higher than what you paid for it, so you can easily sell it. Especially this time of year.
I loved our Wii at first, but now it just feels like it’s taking up space. We only use it when we’ve got company over. You may have different feelings. Buy one, and find out.
