Question Asked: Do I Need To Buy A New TV By February 2009?

No, definitely not.  Sure, it wouldn’t hurt to step up to HDTV, but that’s not absolutely necessary.  The majority of televisions in homes today will continue to work, with the help of a “converter box”, which you can pick up at any store that has an electronics department.

The “digital conversion” isn’t as big of a deal as they’re making it out to seem.  Sure, it’s a change for some people, but not everyone.  The commercials seem to try to scare people into getting a new television. (Which is appears to have done, since you asked this question!)

Your old tv should continue to work just fine, with the help of the converter box.  If you pop into Best Buy, or Circuit City and ask for a converter box, they’ll know exactly what you need, and get it to you.  And they’re pretty simple to plugin, too. Just a quick cable from your antennea, to your box, to your TV.  Just one more stop in the chain, and you’re all set.

To reiterate, you don’t need a new tv, no matter what the salesman at Best Buy tries to tell you.

Question Asked: Where Can I Get A Copy Of My TV’s Owners Manual?

There’s nothing worse than not being able to remember how to do something with your television, and not being able to find the manual!

Your best bet, usually, is the manufacturer’s website.  They often keep manuals in PDF format for the current model year, and previous few years.  If their website’s no help, sometimes calling them can be helpful.

If they can’t help, a website I’ve resorted to, in the past, is servicemanuals.net, they archive quite a few service and owner manuals for various manufacturers, and models, dating back decades.

Sometimes, though, if something’s wrong with your television, and it’s super old, you’re better off buying a new one, especially with next year’s digital TV impending doom!

Question Asked: What Websites Are Good To Pass Time?

When I’m bored at work, which can be often times, I rely on a variety of websites to pass the time.  Keep in mind though, what works for one may not work for another.  But here’s how I pass time:

It all depends on you, and what you like to do on the internet.  If you’re bored, check out Hulu, I’ve been addicted to it for weeks now, and have watched nearly everything on it.

Question Asked: Who is the Highest Paid Actor on Television?

Great question, and a surprising list of actors when I did the research on this.

The answers would be different if the question was “highest paid person on television”, which is Oprah (at $225 million a year)

Actors, however, tell a different tale:

  1. William Petersen (”CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) - $11.5 million ($500, 000 per episode)
  2. Charlie Sheen (”Two and a Half Men”) - $8.05 million
  3. Mariska Hargitay (”Law and Order: Special Victims Unit”) - $8.05 million
  4. Christopher Meloni (”Law and Order: Special Victims Unit”) - $8.05 million
  5. Zach Braff (”Scrubs”) - $6.3 million
  6. Hugh Laurie (”House MD”) - $6.2 million

Now, there’s another person who one could argue is an “actor”, that makes more than everyone on that list.  Judge Judy.  Judge Judy gets a reported $30 million per year, including the rights for syndication of her show to over 80 countries.    Which not only puts her number two on the list of television personalities, but also puts her atop the list of judges’ annual incomes.

And, since you asked, here’s the highest paid actors in movies, as well:

  1. Keavnu Reeves (The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions) - $20 million + 15% of gross profits, totaling $185 million
  2. Bruce Willis (The Sixth Sense) - $14 million + 14% of gross profits, totaling $103 million
  3. Tom Cruise (War of the Worlds) - 20% of gross profits, totaling $100 million
  4. Bruce Willis (Live Free or Die Hard) - $25 million + 20% of gross profits, totaling $96 million
  5. Tom Cruis (Mission Impossible: II) - $20 million + 30% of gross profits, totaling $92 million

Not bad for a couple months’ work, huh?
