Question Asked: How Long Does It Take To Get To Outer Space?
Assuming you mean for a space shuttle, of course.
“Outer space” is a relative term in most cases. However in most applications, “outer space” is referred to as being out of the atmosphere of Earth, which is 100,000 feet (just shy of 19 miles.)
Based on the estimated speed of a space shuttle during take off, it takes approximately 7 minutes and 45 seconds to get out of Earth’s atmosphere.
The speed during take off is estimated to increase extremely rapidly. It’s estimated that roughly 180 seconds after take off, the shuttle is travelling at close to 17,500 MPH.
Question Asked: How Long Has Alex Trebek Been Hosting Jeopardy!?
The original Jeopardy! aired from March 1964 to January 1975, and had a few reimaginings since then. The most successful Jeopardy version has been with Alex Trebek.
After the original went off the air in March of 1979, the network brought it back on September 10, 1984, starring Alex Trebek, who’s also been producing the show since that time.
Trebek has been hosting for just about 25 years now. As of November, 2008, Trebek has hosted 5500 episodes of the show.
I can’t find any data online about when their season starts and ends, or how many episodes they do per season. Therefore, I can’t get the exact number of shows that he’s hosted until today. But assuming 5 shows per week, and no reruns since November, that puts the total at roughly 5599 including tonight’s episode. That’s pretty impressive. 5600 episodes hosted. Someone should give the guy an award.
This version of the show holds the record for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show, with 11.
Question Asked: How Long Will It Take To Get My Tax Refund?
According to the IRS’ website, if you opt for direct deposit and e-filed, they say you should have your return in less than 3 weeks.
If you opt for direct deposit, and file by mail, it should take eight weeks.
If you opt for a check, and e-file, it’ll take four weeks.
If you opt for a check, and file by mail, it’ll take 12 weeks.
So the advice is, file online, and opt for direct deposit. You’ll get your money much faster. Unless, of course, you owe the IRS money. Then wait until April 14th, file by mail, and wait as along as you can to pay them.
Question Asked: How Long Do I Cook A Turkey?
Since today’s Christmas (Merry Christmas, by the way), I’ll try to keep this short, since I’ve got food cooking in the oven.
There’s two things to consider when cooking your turkey, 1) making sure it’s done, and 2) making sure it’s not over-done.
A turkey generally has to cook for 10 minutes per poud (if stuffed), at 425 degrees. Unstuffed is slightly less, at 8 minutes per pound.
So, if your turkey is 15 pounds, it should cook for 2.5 hours, give or take.
The important part is to check the temperature. Your bird should be in the 160-170 range, but not any more or less. Any less will cause bacteria to grow, any more will have a dried out bird.
Once you take it out of the oven, let it sit for about half an hour before cutting into it. This will allow it to “finish” cooking, and settle into itself. After that, you’re good to go. Enjoy.
