Question Asked: Who Is the Best Batman?

Good time to ask this question, as The Dark Knight is in its fourth week of being open, and has just about broken the $400 million mark in ticket sales.  That’s a huge accomplishment.

Having a man-crush on Christian Bale, I’m inclined to go with him.  Not only have his two Batman movies collectively made more money than any two others, they’ve also gotten reviewed the best amongst critics.

While Michael Keaton’s Batman was iconic, and certainly memorable under director Tim Burton, it all felt too cartoonish.  I know it was based on a comic book, but it almost felt like it was supposed to be a cartoon.

Val Kilmer and George Clooney were both good Bruce Waynes, but terrible Batmen. (Is that the correct pluralization of Batman?)  While I wanted Clooney to kick ass, for obvious reasons, he just didn’t.  Not to mention Batman and Robin and Batman Forever were jokes of movies.

Christian Bale’s taken the role to a whole new level, under the watchful eye of director Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Prestige).  The character is darker, and somewhat more evil, while still being a super hero.  Fans have really responded to the role, particularly to The Dark Knight which is breaking box office records left and right, and has spent the last three weeks atop the box office charts. Not to mention that it’s #1 on IMDb’s Top 250 movies of all time list (based on viewer rating.)  That’s impressive.  Oh, and the fact that the movie’s fantastic doesn’t hurt, either.

Of course, this is all subject to my opinion.  You may disagree. If you do, leave a comment. I’m sure there’ll be many differences of opinions on the subject.

Question Asked: Who Would Win in a Fight? Batman or Superman?

Well, seeing as I’m more of a movie buff, than a comic book buff, this is a tough question. However, I’d have to say Superman. Solely based on the fact that he’s technically an alien and is virtually invincible.

Though, now that I’m thinking about it, Batman may very well have some kryptonite hidden away in that magic little belt of his. Anything’s possible.

Interestingly enough, there’s an entire website dedicated to this exact question: Batman-versus-Superman. According to their poll, with over 13, 100 votes, Batman is slightly ahead (50.9% of votes).

I guess we’ll have to wait until next year, when the movie (just a rumor, for now) comes out.
