Question Asked: How Do I Install WordPress?
|
Jul 9th, 2008 |
WordPress is actually one of the easiest applications to install to use as a blog.
The first step is to get the latest version from the site (www.wordpress.org), and extract the files to your computer. If your webhost offers an “instant” installer, stay away from it. It’s probably an old, and exploited version.
Once extracted, upload those files (leaving their file structure intact) to your website using FTP.
Once uploaded, you’ll need to create your Config file. There’s a file called wp-config-sample.php, rename it to wp-config.php, and edit it. There’s a few variables you need to plugin about your MySQL database (which you can get from your host, or the host’s control panel.)
Once saved, simply go to your website, and add /wp-admin to the end. It’ll automatically detect that you haven’t installed the application yet, and walk you through it. You’ll just need to provide a few small details, and the system will do the rest. It’s really quite easy.
Since WordPress is open source, there’s no real “support” team for it. But, as a member of their forums, I can say that the members who post in the forum have never not been able to help. If you get stuck, start on the forums, they’ll be able to help you, without doubt.
Best of luck with your new blog!
